$20,000 Gift to Children’s Medical Center Dallas

April 2013 – TeamConnor gifted $20,000 to Children’s Medical Center Dallas to support a specialized art program for stem cell transplant patients in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children’s. This program is an essential component of quality pediatric health care, Child Life’s primary goal is to minimize the impact of illness on a child’s normal growth and emotional and cognitive development.
CCBD patients often have psychological and emotional needs that arise from living with cancer and blood disorders. Due to patients’ severely compromised immune systems, they frequently have to maintain very limited and occasionally no contact with some of their immediate family, (i.e. siblings), as well as extended family members and friends. This separation can result in feelings of isolation and loneliness. The opportunity to work with art materials has proven to be very beneficial in combating these feelings and can often make the difference between a very good day or a very bad day in the hospital.
