Coping With Cancer – What Kids Need to Know

Tips from Kids, for Kids

More Tips
  • Don’t be afraid of washing your wig. It’s the same as washing your hair, you just do it about once every 15 wears.
  • Don’t try and use a hair dryer to dry your wig if its made from prosthetic fibers. It will begin to melt. Not cool!
  • If your eyelashes are starting to grow back, but not quick enough, you should look into eyelash extensions. They are expensive, but they are glued on to your existing lashes. They last about three weeks and you can do everything as normal on them as your real eyelashes. It’s great when your eyelashes are growing in because it’s faster and they won’t damage the new lashes growing in.
  • Yes, it’s normal to get a metallic taste in your mouth when undergoing treatment. It’s because chemotherapy drugs can cause changes in the mouth and will affect taste. The good news is that everything should be back to normal when you get off treatment.
  • When you start feeling sick, stay away from strong smells. Go outside and get some fresh air. That usually worked for me.
  • Remember to eat! Sometimes you won’t feel like it or you may have sore in your mouth from the treatment. But in order to get better, you have to eat to maintain your levels of energy!
